I had the pleasure of shooting HS Senior Portraits of a very special young lady I know, Allie.
I met Allie through a local organization called “FEAT” that benefits families affected by autism.
She volunteers one Saturday a month of her time, along with other High School kids in the area.
The program is called “Super Saturday” – it is a 3 hour respite provided for the parents of special needs kids.
They provide games, music, and play for special needs kids and their siblings. Quite remarkable and so much fun.
I have gotten to know Allie, and a few of the volunteer teens, and well, they just never cease to amaze me.
Allie and I have a special bond as well because she loves shooting 35mm film.
SO fun sharing things with her.
I asked Allie:
“What made you choose to volunteer your time with special needs kids?
“How has it changed your life?”
“What are your plans for the future?”
This is what she replied:
“I started volunteering with FEAT because I love to work with kids. As the year went on, I saw the kids progressing and growing before my eyes and I was hooked.
I’ve watched them all benefit from FEAT over the years and there is no better feeling than watching your kids grow up. I can’t imagine my life without my FEAT kids. I hope to study journalism in college and continue to volunteer at FEAT.”
Allie, you are beautiful, and amazing more than words can say – thank you from the bottom of my heart for always showing my kids, and all the kids at FEAT;
compassion, respect, love and encouragement.
I wish you the best journey to college – and I look forward to watching you grow.
